Client: Novo Nordisk
Year: 2023
Focus: Custom Furniture | Recycled Materials | Workplace Design
In 2023, Novo Nordisk's Digital, Data, and IT unit moved into a new office space with a clear priority: to integrate circular materials into its workplace. To realise this, SMALLrevolution was brought on to design and produce custom tabletops and planter boxes made entirely from 100% recycled plastic waste sourced directly from Novo Nordisk’s own operations.
THE CHALLENGE
Novo Nordisk, a global healthcare company, wanted their new office space to integrate circular design principles in a tangible way. With the growing importance of circular design in the corporate sector, they sought to transform waste from their own operations into meaningful, functional pieces for their workplace.
The challenge: Could we design and produce furniture that not only met the functional needs of an office but also demonstrates how materials from their own supply chain could be repurposed into practical, high-quality designs while supporting their sustainability goals?
THE SOLUTION
SMALLrevolution worked closely with Novo Nordisk to develop a series of custom tabletops and planter boxes. By using 100% recycled plastic sourced directly from Novo’s Nordisk’s operations, these pieces were designed in order to visibly support the company’s circular ambitions.
The project highlights the potential of closed-loop systems, where materials from one part of a business cycle are reintegrated to create new products.
THE OUTCOME
The new office furniture was installed in 2023, providing functional solutions that demonstrate how Novo Nordisk’s own waste can be repurposed. The tabletops and planter boxes are practical additions that highlight the potential of circular design within workplace environments, moving towards a circular economy.
This collaboration demonstrates how businesses can reuse materials from within their own operations, turning waste into valuable resources.
