Focus: Public Furniture | Modular Seating | Recycled Materials
At SMALLrevolution, we specialise in transforming waste into long-lasting, design-led products. Our recent collaboration with architecture studio ZESO and Copenhagen Airports exemplifies how circular materials can be scaled to meet the demands of high-traffic, public environments—without compromising on aesthetics or function.
The Challenge
As part of the redesign of Terminal 3 at Copenhagen Airport, the goal was clear: introduce seating that’s modular, modern, and aligned with the city’s climate ambitions. ZESO Architects led the design with a vision inspired by the curves and connectivity of Copenhagen’s canals.
The challenge: Could this bold, sculptural form be produced in a way that reflected the airport’s—and the city’s—commitment to circularity?
The Solution
SMALLrevolution was brought on to develop and produce the physical seating elements using 100% recycled plastic. With our in-house expertise, we translated the architectural concept into modular furniture pieces built for durability, repairability, and material traceability.
The seating—named Havn—is manufactured entirely in Denmark using locally sourced plastic waste. Each component is engineered for public use, able to withstand the demands of constant flow while offering travelers a moment of rest and calm.
The Outcome
Now installed in Terminal 3, Havn represents more than just airport furniture. It’s a functional expression of circular design, made visible to millions of passengers each year. This project demonstrates how large-scale infrastructure can integrate recycled materials meaningfully—not as a compromise, but as a design standard.
At SMALLrevolution, we believe that every space—no matter how transient—deserves products that are both built to last and built with purpose. Havn stands as a public testament to that belief.
