FROM FESTIVAL WASTE TO ARCHITECTURAL MATERIAL

Discarded drinking cups and wine jugs collected at earlier editions of Roskilde Festival were transformed by SMALLrevolution into recycled plastic panels for MOMUS, a social installation designed by Antenna Works for the festival’s Backstage Village.

The project marks a new application for Roskilde Festival’s own plastic waste: moving from furniture and functional objects into architectural material.

MOMUS

Designed by Antenna Works, MOMUS is an informal stage and social installation created as a space for gathering, conversation and performance.

The monumental structure is built from timber and clad with plywood and translucent recycled plastic panels produced by SMALLrevolution.

FESTIVAL WASTE AS AS ARCHITECTURAL MATERIAL

The project builds on our ongoing collaboration with Roskilde Festival to find new applications for plastic waste generated by the event.

For us, the opportunity goes beyond recycling. It is about understanding a waste stream, identifying where the material can create value and designing applications that keep it in use for longer.

With MOMUS, individual disposable objects become architectural surfaces. Material that once existed for a matter of hours at the festival returns with an entirely different function.

The collection bins used at Roskilde Festival are also part of our collaboration, connecting the collection of materials today with the possibility of what they can become next.

MOMUS offers a tangible example of circularity at scale: taking a waste stream from the festival itself and turning it into a durable architectural material that becomes part of the next chapter of Roskilde Festival.
