CLEVER: FROM CHARGING-BOX PLASTIC TO INTERIOR APPLICATIONS
by SMALL revolution
·
Client: Clever
Focus: Closed-loop Partnerships | Technical Plastic Waste | Circular Design
SMALLrevolution, in collaboration with Clever and Råt&Godt, has developed a closed-loop pathway for plastic from Clever charging boxes.
As EV infrastructure scales across Denmark, so does the volume of technical plastic hardware entering the waste stream.
Rather than treating this material as a discarded component, the collaboration works with it as a recoverable resource with a known source.
OBJECTIVE
The objective was to determine how plastic from Clever charging boxes could be:
- Collected through a dedicated take-back setup
- Sorted and prepared as a controlled material stream
- Reprocessed locally in Denmark
- Reintroduced into new interior applications
This required moving beyond general recycling and into a traceable, application-driven material system.
METHODOLOGY
Collection
Plastic from Clever charging boxes collected through a dedicated take-back setup
Sorting
Material sorted in collaboration with Råt&Godt
Transformation
Plastic reprocessed locally in Denmark
Production
Material transformed into new interior applications produced by SMALLrevolution
RESULTS
The Clever material stream has been applied in:
- ID card holders
- Baby Donna vase
- Jane planters
- Sigrid 90 Podium
- Mabel stool
For architects and designers, this is where circularity becomes tangible: a waste stream with a known source is transformed into material that can be applied in real projects.
The collaboration demonstrates how technical plastic from existing infrastructure can be reintegrated into the value chain as a secondary raw material.
It reduces the need for virgin plastic and supports a more local, resource-efficient production model.
